“I believe that horses bring out the best in us. They demand standards of behaviour and levels of kindness that we, as humans, then strive to maintain.” Clare Balding
“Equestrian art is the perfect understanding and harmony between horse and rider.” Nuno Oliviera
Harmony is when individuals work together to form a cohesive whole.
Be Centred began in 2020 with a very specific focus to try and help riders get the best out of themselves and their horses through the use of psychological techniques and mindset coaching. It has now expanded to support a much wider community of people who are struggling with a range of problems, including emotional well being, mental health and social isolation through the use of equine facilitated therapy.
Horses are amazingly empathetic and social beings which makes them the perfect partner to help support people therapeutically. Equine facilitated therapy is a holistic and experiential form of therapy where people complete tasks with the horse and then work with a qualified counsellor to discuss and process the experience. EFT helps people learn things about themselves, tackle negative thinking patterns and discover new ways of thinking.
There is nothing more beautiful and inspiring than watching a horse and rider work together in complete harmony. A shared sense of purpose, happiness and being in the moment exudes from the partnership. Harmony is a rider who is able to communicate clearly with their horse, both on the ground and under saddle; it is about a rider who is able to ride in balance and therefore poses the least hindrance to the horses movement; it is also about a rider who has a balanced mindset allowing them to approach work with their horse with clarity, understanding and empathy. Achieving this mindset takes time, effort and practise. Be Centred supports riders in the pursuit of this goal through ridden and on the ground sessions, using well recognised and reviewed strategies such as mindfulness and cognitive behavioural therapy.
