Be Centred was founded by our Director and Head of Services, Cathy Hadley. Cathy qualified as a counsellor and psychotherapist in 2016 and is a Registered Member of the BACP (374685). She also has over 30 years experience of living with and caring for horses. After leaving a career in the education sector Cathy wanted to create something that bridged a gap she had become acutely aware of in mental health services: an affordable and bespoke service to overcame the barriers that many people have in going to therapy. Having experienced her own mental health battles Cathy knew the healing power that horses and nature have and wanted to be able to share this with other people.

After initially carrying out a pilot scheme funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, Be Centred put down roots in it’s own private and peaceful yard, based in Claverdon, Warwickshire. As the need for the service grew so did the herd of horses and the people involved in the project. We now have a thriving community of horses, other animals and people of all ages from all over the West Midlands who come to work with us for a range of reasons, from anxiety and stress, to depression, family and communication difficulties, Autism, ADHD...to name a few. Be Centred works with doctors, social prescribers, social workers, other therapy and community centres, schools and other educational providers to ensure that everyone in our community knows about the work and services we offer.
In 2025, after consultation with the community, Be Centred expanded the services that we offer to include nature therapy. This therapy can take several forms: sitting out in nature to have a counselling session, moving and talking, working in our raised beds to grow fruit, veg and flowers, building and maintaining habitats for wildlife to name a few.
Now 2026 has come around and we are expanding again to offer more 'traditional' counselling sessions both in person and remotely to allow everyone who wants to be a part of our ever growing community to take part.
